The short version: We only collect what you give us — your email if you subscribe, or your details if you message us. We use Squarespace to run the site. We never sell or rent your data. You can ask us to show, correct or delete your data anytime at meritioum@outlook.com.
Who we are
This site, Meritioum ("we", "us"), is based in Europe. We are the "data controller" responsible for your personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Our website is built and hosted on Squarespace, which processes data on our behalf as our service provider (see "Who we share it with" below). What data we collect
Information you give us
- Newsletter: your email address (and name, if you provide it) when you subscribe.
- Contact: your name, email address and message when you use our contact form or email us.
Information collected automatically
When you visit, limited technical data (such as your browser type, approximate region and pages viewed) may be processed to keep the site secure and working, and — only with your consent — to measure traffic. This is handled through cookies and similar technologies; see our Cookie Policy. Non-essential cookies are restricted until you accept them in our cookie banner.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To send you the newsletter — your consent (which you can withdraw anytime).
- To reply to your messages — our legitimate interest in responding to you, and taking steps at your request.
- To keep the site secure and functioning — our legitimate interest in running a safe, working website.
- To measure traffic (analytics) — your consent for non-essential cookies.
We do not sell your data
We never sell, rent or trade your personal data. We don't use it for third-party advertising.
Who we share it with
We only share data with service providers ("processors") who help us run the site, under appropriate data-protection terms:
- Squarespace — our website host and the provider of our forms and built-in analytics. As our hosting platform, Squarespace processes data on our behalf; see Squarespace's Privacy Policy and Squarespace's Cookie Policy.
- Our email/newsletter tool — to store subscribers and send the newsletter.
- (In future) a payment provider — if and when we sell products; this policy will be updated before then.
We may also disclose data if required by law.
International data transfers
Squarespace is a US company and may store data on servers in the United States, so your data may be transferred outside the EU. Squarespace, Inc. is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which provides a legal basis for these transfers, and also relies on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses as an additional safeguard. This is set out in Squarespace's Data Processing Addendum (part of its terms).
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Contact messages: for as long as needed to handle your request, then a reasonable period after.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email meritioum@outlook.com — we aim to respond within one month.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. In Portugal this is the CNPD (Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados), www.cnpd.pt.
Children
This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from minors.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll change the "last updated" date above, and significant changes will be made clear on the site.
